The copy text is Roosevelt 1941 [=A], an audio recording of the speech as it was delivered before Congress and radio networks.
Early 1941 [=B], is followed for all formatting, including paragraphs, spelling, and punctuation. This source is the original transcript of the speech as released to the press by the White House; however, the document also contains hand-written emendations noting changes from the transcript to the delivered speech.
The text of this edition has been thoroughly checked and proofread. All double quotations are rendered with “, all single quotations with an apostrophe ‘. This copy-text is not subject to end-of-line hyphenation. Paragraph numbers have been added in square brackets.
